Valentine Tassel

I have saw ribbon tassels on other blogs and since I have a ton of ribbon I thought what better way to get rid of make good use of that ribbon.
This is what I came up with, again another project that I have been wanting to try and finally just went for it!!! Here are the supplies I used to make my tassel.
Heart picks - I bought these at the Dollar Tree.
Styrofoam ball - I still had some left over from this project.
A glue gun - and when it dies like this one did, farewell old friend.
Then you have to get a new glue gun - hello beautiful!
Ribbon in various colors and widths - I used more than the ones shown.
I took one of the balls and.......
cut it in half with my handy kitchen knife.
I only cut off the top so that I would have a flat top.
I just held the first ribbon I was going to use up to the ball and decided how low I wanted it to hang and then I cut it and seven more for a total of eight. I used my widest ribbon as my base layer.
I started by hot gluing three, and then I decided I wanted it to be fuller than three would make it so I glued a total of eight around the bottom of the ball.
I did the same with the next ribbons I used. I glued the tips together on all of them and then started attaching them to the ball. I glued the first one on and then directly on the other side of the ball I glued the next one so that I could get them evenly spaced.

I added some yarn that I had because I wanted some thinner pieces hanging throughout the tassel.
I added some XO ribbon to give a little more LOVE.

I did make some of the ribbons shorter as I added them to the tassel.
Once I added all of the ribbon I wanted I used some coordinating ribbon around the top to cover the ends of the ribbon.
Then I added a little decorative rickrack for additional cuteness.
I added two small hearts and two larger hearts to the top of the Styrofoam ball.
I cut the wood sticks at different lengths to give some variation in the height.
To hang the tassel I hot glued some ribbon to the top of the ball. I had some filler used for gifts to cover the Styrofoam.

And here is the result!!!!
I can't wait to make some more of these.

  1. This is so cute! I love using up my stash of scraps I hold onto. I need to get to the Dollar Store for some of those heart picks. They are darling.
