Life has a way of reminding us what is important. It isn't the things we have, what we want, where we want to go, or any of that.
Family - that's what is important to me and I know that's what is important to so many of you.
Last night I received a call from my sons girlfriend that he wasn't feeling well and she was taking him to the ER. I thought he probably had the flu but waited to here back from them. I guess I should add that my son is a little over three hours away from us at college. We received a phone call that they thought it was his gallbladder and that they may have to do surgery. Early this morning I received a text that they were admitting him to the hospital and he would indeed need surgery.
Of course all I could think was that he needed to be home so that I could do my mom thing and take care of him. He is 21 but I have quickly realized it is so true that no matter how old our children get we never stop worrying about them.
Well we have some super family doctors that we are fortunate enough to also be friends with. My husband called them at home to see if they could help us get him surgery here at home. I went on to school because I new I would be taking tomorrow off and I would need to get things ready for a sub. My husband called me at around 11:00 and said we had to have our son to the surgeons office by 3:00.
Our TA had stayed with my students while the office tried to find a sub, but when they couldn't get one my coworkers took care of me so that I could be with my son. I quickly pulled somethings together and my wonderful fellow teachers divided my students up between them so that I could leave. I have to add that I have a great principal who is always understanding when their is a problem such as this. Not everyone is so lucky, I am truly blessed.
My son will have surgery tomorrow and I will be with him, because I wouldn't be anywhere else. It's funny how my hope for a day off so I could get my kitchen back in order quickly dropped to the bottom of the things I need to get done.
Life has a way of reminding us what is important.
I hope you have a wonderful day and are as blessed as I am to have a loving family and friends.
